Fie is... well, he's beautiful on the outside, but dumb as rocks on the inside, and that's as politely as it can be put. If we'd been lucky, he'd have been a goober sort, quick to make a friend and slobber on your shirt, as one might expect from the mare. Instead the fates handed us an aggressive, pushy, coltish animal with no manners and a gently sloping learning curve. Each lesson throughout his training required gentle reinforcement at least twice as long as any of the other young horses, either because of plain old inattentiveness or because he simply had trouble grasping the concept. The silver lining made the whole think worth it though, because while it takes him awhile to understand what you want, when he DOES understand, he masters it completely. After being an idiot around the starting gate for a month, he'd decide to simply walk in and never have a problem again. He wouldn't actively give chase to another horse working under saddle for an incredibly long time, but when he realized the goal was to finish in front, the staff witnessed a complete 180. He's still moody and explosive on the ground, but when he's competing under saddle he'll drive himself mad trying to get to the lead. It's made him a suicidal frontrunner for sure, but that's much better than having no drive whatsoever. Fie is a gorgeous horse to look at, everything else aside. He's flashy and powerful, everything the idle bystander would appreciate and put their money on. And while it took him a little longer to get there, their money is definitely well-placed.
LEG TYPE: COMPULSORY FRONTRUNNER
Fie is a boisterous colt in the paddock and post parade, but he loads into the gate like an old veteran. While he'll continue to be worked with as he gets older, for now Fie absolutely has to be on the lead or he'll exhaust himself fighting with his jockey. He breaks from the gate cleanly every time, settling himself quietly on the lead - as long as there are no challengers. If he is challenged, Fie does everything he can to keep himself ahead. If his jockey tries to hold him back, he'll do everything including taking leaping, dangerous strides with his head in the air to try and get his head back and do what he knows he needs to do, so it's best just to let him run his race. When they come down the stretch, Fie gives every ounce of heart and athleticism he has to maintain or regain a lead, even if it has to happen after the wire.
