LARKSPUR
PERSONALITY
Named for a hardy but beautiful wildflower, Lark is a gentle soul with worlds of wisdom behind those brown eyes. An old soul with a love of life, Lark accepts new challenges with the type of bold bravery that would be suitable for a war horse of old. She's curious and willing, fear practically non-existent in her repertoire. She's a jailbird of a horse, apt to knock down rails or slip away from a loose grip to explore the farm if given the opportunity, so it's in one's best interest to keep a weathered eye on this filly. She makes is pretty much impossible to catch her in the field without a lot of cajoling, or, sometimes, 'kidnapping' her paddock-mate to get her to come along. She's never mean about it, and a quick reprimand will lead to a sigh and acquiescence, but she does so love her adventures. She's a stalwart protector for Champagne Supernova, the quiet filly purchased from the same overseas sale. While Nova is a pushover, Lark strongly stands up for what she believes in, punishing bullies but otherwise keeping the peace. Lark is a cribber, and an unrepentant one at that. If she manages to get her crib strap off, she'll destroy a fenceline in a day, no problem. Somehow, despite her obnoxious tendencies, she really is a beloved member of the crop. She just has such a joy for everything she does that it's hard to stay mad at her for too long - you're more likely to laugh as she plays keep-away.
LEG TYPE: MID-PACK
Lark looks at race day the way she looks at anything else - a mountain to be conquered, an adventure to be had. She thrives on the bustle of the crowd and paddock, curiously watching everything around her with eager wonder. She loads with a prancing step, small stature seeming bigger when she muscles up before the start. She breaks well, but with shorter legs tends to end up mid-pack, and that suits her just fine. She likes being surrounded by the push and shove of the other horses, and it just seems to amp her up for the fight to come. She sits on her move, coiled tightly and with increasing anticipation, until her jockey shakes her up around the final turn. Her move tends to come on the rail if there's room, saving ground with her short legs driving her on, but she's always up for a challenge regardless. She's a little thing, but she's got the heart of a fighter, and she loves a dogfight to the end.
