PERSONALITY
Shanna is something of an enigma. Most of the time she's a sweet filly, spunky and playful and very much a young horse. She plays in the field with the other fillies, not needing to be dominant but needing to be left alone by those who feel they are dominant. The other fillies, even top dog Fantasy Island, know not to mess with this filly. She's alright for playing and even play-fighting, but if one of the others digs in and tries to assert dominance by forcing her to do anything, Shanna does a complete 180. It's these times that her father's personality shows through, and she gets incredibly violent, chasing and biting at the other horse until she calms down. It's only had to happen once or twice for the other fillies to know what they can and can't do. Unfortunately, this isn't just with other horses. Shanna can be an incredibly fun horse to be around, but the smallest things can set her off, making her on the dangerous side to work with. If you let your guard down and accidentally push her to do something she doesn't want to do, Shanna can react with anything to heels dug in to going completely crazy, bucking and kicking and charging regardless of any pain that might be caused her by it or anyone that might be hurt in the process. It's a tricky balancing act, and the solutions has seemed to be only one or two people handling her on a regular basis. Tigris and Minske have tag-teamed with her since her arrival at Valkyrie, and it's seemed to work well. Tigris does most of the riding while Minske does ground work, both making sure to never push the filly past what she wants to do. Especially when being ridden, she's potentially dangerous and takes a special sort of effort and training to convince her that it's her idea. She mostly reacts to pain of any kind badly - suggestions such as leg pressure and bit pressure don't set her off unless it's done in a way that hurts or just generally pisses her off. That being said, whips and chains are a no-go. If a whip is used on her, she's most likely to completely dig in her heels and hurt herself or her rider. Chains are a little less bad, but can still end in disaster - they're only bad if she acts up, because the pressure causes pain if she pulls too much and that just enrages her. So, since it's counter-productive, it's better for her to not have one at all. It's been a learning process, but everyone's figuring it out pretty quickly. If handled correctly, Shanna can be the greatest horse in the world, and she's got a ton of potential.
LEG TYPE: VERSATILE
Shanna goes into the gate well as long as the attendants aren't too pushy with her. If they try to force her in, she might just balk and that will be that. Once she's in the gate she stands well, if a little eagerly. When the gates open, she's normally out very quickly, and heads straight for the front. However, if her jockey can manage it, they prefer that she sits second or third, mostly so they don't have to fight with her to keep a moderate pace. Nine times out of ten she'll settle easy enough. If she's in a really intolerant mood, she'll fight her way to the front, and her jockeys can only hope she has enough gas in the tank if she gets into a battle. With such a strong pedigree, it's entirely possible that she will. She makes her move in the stretch, and runs her race all on her own - without whips as an incentive, it's all on the filly to get the job done. Luckily, she doesn't like to finish behind. She'll give her all to get a head in front at the wire.
