PALACE OF FIRE

Fieri is a jumpy, excitable horse - almost like he's constantly hopped up on caffeine, to be honest. His eyes are constantly wide when he looks around, even if there's nothing to be startled about, or even if he's not startled at all - he's just constantly got a look of surprise, and it's actually pretty comical. He's a restless sort that has trouble standing still, and is prone to biting or striking out if he's forced to do so. Even though he's a bit rude and a bit of a jerk, he has an incredible amount of talent. It's just that he's... easily distracted. If he wasn't such a prime stallion prospect, he'd probably have been gelded with the way he trumpets after the fillies and mares and calls challenge at the colts in the saddling paddock. On race day he's all focus, but on the ground he can be an absolute nightmare. He's horrible about baths, and actually tries to savage the hose if someone gets too close. Under saddle and during works his rider has to constantly keep him focused and keep him firmly in hand - any weakness on their part will result in him taking advantage. When he is kept focused, though, he's terrifyingly sharp. His drive and will are unmatched, and he'll run himself into the ground if he's in the moment - whether or not the trainer was going for that level of commitment that work on that day. If he gets the bit in his teeth he won't stop until he's well ready to. Despite everyone's best efforts, he's got no respect for his handlers, other horses, anything. But it comes from his incredible confidence in himself, and he's got no fear in a race.
LEG TYPE: FRONTRUNNER/PRECEDER
Fieri walks into the starting gate like it's his birthright, practically ignoring the attendants and standing square like a kids' pony. He completely ignores the snorting, nervous stamps of the other horses, looking only down the track until the gates open. For as relaxed as he is in the gate, he's got an incredible burst of speed in the beginning, taking him right up to the front. He's so superior in his confidence that he likes to run at the front, but he could hardly care about the other horses. If one of them wants to pass him, he's completely content with that as long as he's still got open turf in front of him. If a preceder tries to press the pace, Fieri treats them as if they're not even there, like they're below him. He runs at his own pace, and only his own pace. However, he's constantly waiting for the cue of his rider, which has to be perfectly timed - the colt's stretch run is all-or-nothing. Once he's let loose, he's incredibly difficult to stop, and he'll win by daylight without a care in the world for what the other horses are doing. He gives everything he's got every race, and he'll eventually be wrestled to a stop long past the wire.
