THORNY ROSE

Y9 Black-Based Grey Mare Standing 16.1 Hands High
PERSONALITY
Coming from a broken down, backwater Thoroughbred breeding program from Louisiana, Rose was not handled as a foal or yearling. The stable's naive owners did not pay attention to what the caretaker was doing, and he had more than he could ever handle. Leaving the mares and foals to basically fend for themselves, all he did was feed them, while the owners just gave orders to breed the next Kentucky Derby champion, and never visited the property. Once it came time to send a trainer and jockey down, the pair were shocked at seeing a group of wild mares and youngsters running around the paddocks, essentially wild. After the organization was shut down, the horses were sold at auction, and Rose ended up at a racing facility. Despite being in appropriate hands, she did not take to humans, and refused to be ridden. Tolerating basic halter handling and enough physical touch to get vet and farriery complete, Thorny Rose simply dumped every rider who tried to get on her back. She quickly became too much effort, the thorn in everyone's side. On her own she seems to have a pleasant disposition, but around humans, she simply will not cooperate.
LEG TYPE: STALKER
Her headstrong nature makes her a lovely dominate mare in the pasture, she is fair but doles out discipline swiftly. Once the racing stable realized things just would not work out for her on the track, they sent her to a reahab facility. Although they tried for several years, Thorny Rose would not budge, no matter how much natural horsemanship, traditional horsemanship, and zen therapy they tried she would not be a rideable mount. With her athletic ability, it was simply a shame she couldn't train to do anything. Ending up staying there for several years, no one wanted to buy a mare who couldn't be ridden or handled often. Greasy Creek Thoroughbreds was looking to establish itself in Y18, and picked up the mare to add to their breeding string. Although she hadn't foaled before, she still had several good years left to give her hand at being a mother. Having thrown a colt and filly for GCT before their closeout put the mare up for sale again, REI couldn't pass the misfit up. We're eagerly awaiting the next several foals from her we get for ourselves, and are looking to see how her first two shape up.
