Y10 Bay Mare Standing 16.2 Hands High
PERSONALITY
Riverine came to Battle Brook Stable with a history of being a bit of a problem child. She was an infamous brat for her former owners in California and try as they might, River just wouldn't cooperate. For four years of her racing career, River wouldn't cooperate. Ripley followed the mare's journey after falling in love with her at a sale in Florida in Y13, but the bay never hit the track. She was belligerent in her workouts and hated to train. She would gallop for a half mile before suddenly quitting and taking her rider right back to the gap. When her trainer did manage to get her to work out, River was blazing fast and nearly unstoppable. If the trainer sent a pony to catch her, River saw it as competition and would rebreak, kidnapping her rider and taking them for several loops around the track. She had enough stamina for three horses, but just wouldn't cooperate.
The willful attitude was a huge turn off for the big buyers out in California. No one wanted such a stubborn mare in their barn, passing those traits to her babies. She was placed in several sales, but no one bid more than a few thousand dollars. That was enough for Ripley to fly out there in Year Fifteen and sweep her up. On first site, River was gorgeous. She was huge and muscled and dappled out to the nines. There was nothing about her that wasn't classic. She had an obvious intelligence about her and she was more than willing to be played with on the ground. Ripley put down $10,000 cash in private and that was enough to have River's owners sell outright. Back at Battle Brook, River eased right into the life of Kentucky. She can be a bit stubborn sometimes, but otherwise she's well-natured and well-behaved. Others might have seen the stubbornness as a bad thing, but Ripley only saw an unbreakable spirit.
