Personality
Rhodie is a truly in-you-pocket filly, and she's by and large a farm favorite. She's the first horse to the gate in the morning, and she'll follow you around while you try to catch the harder to wrangle animals... which isn't helpful, but it's the thought that counts. She has trouble relating well in larger groups of fillies, though she desperately wants to fall in with their ranks. For some reason she just isn't well-accepted, and is normally chased off rather than being allowed to join them. She's such a kind filly though that in order to help her settle, she was grouped up with the pensioned mares Trust Limits and Blood of the Angel. They took to her quite easily, surprising in and of itself because older mares can be incredibly cliquey, but it brought equilibrium back to the turnout fields. She's happy to just settle down and graze with them, and in turn they'll join her for the odd run around the field. Outside of her social troubles, Rhodie is actually a very intelligent creature. She's very curious, constantly mouthing at anything new to her - and old things, like clothing. She's constantly pulling and tugging at hooded sweatshirts, jackets, and sometimes (unfortunately) ponytails, and it's not unusual for her to get a bit of skin in the process. She's not malicious, though, and in almost every other aspect she's a dream to work with. She picks up on training wicked fast, and sometimes it seems like she's not capable of putting a foot wrong. Except that, well, she does, and it's at really unexpected times. She tends to shy suddenly at invisible or otherwise stupid things, and while it's nothing that can't be managed, her riders definitely need to keep on their toes to stop from being thrown. She's no war horse, and will bolt if something spooks her badly. She's much more brave at the track than she is anywhere else, just because the team has gone through great pains to make sure she's totally desensitized to the environment by dragging her along to school when the other horses are traveling to race. Above all else, Rhodie really just wants to impress and please her people. She wants to be a part of a herd - a family. And she'd do absolutely anything to do what's asked of her to her fullest physical ability.
LEG TYPE: MID-PACK
When the gates open, it really depends on the size of the field as to where Rhodie settles early on. In a big field she's often a bit intimidated if she's anywhere but the far outside post, and will let the others rush ahead while settling at the back of the 'pack' area, closer to the closers. If it's a smaller field, she'll more comfortably run just behind the leading group. Either way, the rest of her run doesn't seem to be overly affected by that initial rush. She doesn't like to be crowded, likely because of her general experience with backlash being close to other horses, so she's much more comfortable when she's running on the outside even if she has to run a lane or two out. Most normally-sized fields make this pretty easy. When she has a clear track and the room to breathe, she's absolutely explosive with her final, accelerated move, and fights with lot of heart until the wire.
